Good news is, you can skip the first stage if you're a graduate or in your last year of education and join the Intermediate course directly through the Direct Entry scheme.

What Exactly is the CA Direct Entry Scheme?

Direct Entry scheme is a quick way offered by the ICAI to take entry in CA profession. In other words, if you ready to become eligible for direct entry route, you don’t need to go through CA Foundation level and can directly apply for CA Intermediate level, thereby saving time and money in process to achieve your aim of becoming a qualified CA.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for direct entry path, a lot depends on the stream of graduation and percentage of marks obtained thereof. 


1. Commerce Stream Graduates: A candidate should have graduated in commerce stream with minimum of 55% marks. 

2. Non-Commerce Degree Holders, i.e. candidates with degrees in science or arts must have scored not less than 60% marks in their degree for getting eligible for the CA direct entry path.

Fee Structure Breakdown

To enroll in the Intermediate level through the direct entry path, you need to budget for registration charges alongside mandatory training fees:

1. Intermediate Level Registration (Both Groups)

  • Registration Fee: INR 15,000

  • Student Activities Fee: INR 2,000

  • Articleship Registration Fee (as an articled assistant): INR 1,000

  • Total Registration Cost: INR 18,000

2. Mandatory Course & Practical Training Fees

  • Integrated Course Information Technology (ICITSS): INR 6,500

  • Soft Skills Training: INR 7,000

  • 2-Year Articleship Fee: INR 2,000

Step-by-Step Process & Critical Timelines

Knowing the series of steps is very important because the direct entry option has time limitations regarding taking exams and commencing work.


: You need to provide your official graduation marks in these 6 months. If you fail to provide proof of your degree with the required percentage of marks within the stipulated time, your provisional registration will be cancelled and no refund of fees will be done with no academic credits being provided.

Step 1: Provisional Registration For Undergraduate Students.

You don’t even have to wait till you receive your degree certificate to get registered. For final-year students, provisional registration is available. In this period, you can even complete your ICITSS. 

Important Points: You must submit your official final graduation marksheet within 6 months of your provisional registration. If you fail to show proof that you passed with the required percentage (55% for commerce, 60% for others) within those 6 months, your provisional registration will be cancelled. Your fees will not be refunded or adjusted, and you will receive no academic credits.

Step 2: The 8-Month Study Period & Exams

The exams of CA Intermediate are conducted thrice a year in ICAI January, May, and September months. Once you register for the exams successfully and get your registration confirmed, you can take the exams only after an 8-month study period, which is mandatory in this case.

Step 3: Clearing Exams and Starting Articleship

As opposed to standard foundation course students, the direct entry students have a specified timeframe for operations as provided below: 

  1. Prepare for and appear for the CA Intermediate exams.

  2. Pass out the Two Groups of the CA Intermediate Course.

  3. Complete the necessary Orientation Course (ICITSS) of 90 hours (spanning 15 days comprising of 6 hourly sessions per day). 

  4. Register and commence your 2 years of practical articleship training through Form 103 (However, you are strictly not allowed to start your articleship during the provisional period, and therefore, it is important that you do not start before you clear both groups).

Normally it takes almost 5 years to complete a CA course while a direct entry graduate can complete the whole course in a matter of 4.5 years through Foundations.
